FAQs

What should I expect from my initial session?

The first session is an opportunity to get to know each other. In the initial session I will ask many questions and discuss with you the issues or concerns you would like to address in therapy. Together we will develop an individualized treatment plan to meet your goals. Clients under 18 years old are asked to have a parent/guardian to attend at least a portion of the initial session.

Do I prescribe medications?

No, I do not prescribe medications but I work closely with psychiatrists and medical doctors for clients that require medication management. If you do not have a psychiatrist or medical doctor and are interested in medication, I can give you referrals.

What is a psychologist?

Psychologists have a doctoral degree in clinical psychology. We do not have a medical degree and cannot prescribe medications. Psychologists have advanced training in assessing, diagnosing and treatment of mental illness.

How long will I be in therapy?

As all therapy is individualized, there is no way to assign a specific time-period for therapy. It is different for everyone. I believe in time and cost effective treatment with the length of therapy depending on your personal goals and needs. The estimated length of treatment will be discussed in the initial session and will be continually reviewed during later sessions.
