TREATMENT FOR EATING DISORDERS

Our Approach to Eating Disorders and Recovery

At ‘A Better Tomorrow’, we specialize in the treatment of eating disorders and employ a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to provide a holistic and effective approach to recovery.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a cornerstone in treating eating disorders, focusing on identifying and challenging distorted thoughts and beliefs about food, body image, and self-worth. By restructuring these cognitive distortions and developing healthier thinking patterns, clients can reduce disordered eating behaviors and improve their emotional well-being.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT complements this by helping clients embrace their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting or feeling overwhelmed by them. Through mindfulness and commitment strategies, clients learn to accept their inner experiences and commit to actions that align with their values, fostering a more flexible and adaptive relationship with food and their bodies.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems (IFS) offers a unique approach by exploring the various ‘parts’ of the self that contribute to eating disorder behaviors. This modality helps clients identify and understand the internal conflicts and protective mechanisms that drive their disordered eating. By working with these parts, clients can heal past traumas and integrate their internal system, leading to greater self-awareness and harmony. IFS empowers clients to connect with their core Self, which is characterized by compassion and calmness, ultimately facilitating a deeper, more enduring recovery.

Collaboration with psychiatrists and dietitians is integral to the treatment process. We work closely with psychiatrists to provide essential support for medication management, addressing any co-occurring mental health issues such as anxiety or depression that often accompany eating disorders. This collaborative approach ensures that clients receive comprehensive care, addressing both psychological and physiological aspects of their condition. We also encourage most of our clients in treatment for eating disorder recovery to work with a registered dietitian to ensure that nutritional rehabilitation is aligned with therapeutic goals, providing clients with consistent, supportive guidance. Our multidisciplinary teamwork fosters a supportive environment where clients can achieve holistic healing and sustained recovery.
